Early Years

Design and Methodology of Our Early Years School in Málaga

At Yago School Málaga, we understand that the early years are the foundation for all future learning. That is why our teaching team has developed an educational project inspired by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), which promotes a global, active, and personalised education.

Our methodology is based on hands-on, meaningful, playful, and experiential learning where children are the true protagonists of their own development. They learn by exploring, investigating, and asking questions about the world around them, nurturing their natural curiosity and genuine love of learning.

A model that promotes holistic development

We foster the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive growth of each child through experiences that combine creativity, play, and discovery. Children learn to think, communicate, collaborate, and solve problems, strengthening their autonomy and self-confidence from an early age.

Global and multilingual learning

English is the main language of instruction, complemented by Spanish and Chinese to develop an international mindset and strong language skills. From the Early Years stage, students gain an open, multicultural view of the world.

Continuous assessment and personalised support

We observe and assess each child’s progress continuously, adapting the learning process to their pace and individual needs. This personalised approach allows us to nurture their potential and identify challenges early with care and sensitivity.

Digital and cooperative education

We integrate technology responsibly, using digital tools that make learning an intuitive, creative, and collaborative experience. Children work both independently and in teams, developing essential skills for their future.

Values and understanding of the world

Through observation, inquiry, and exploration of their physical, natural, and social environment, children learn to understand and engage with the world around them critically and compassionately. In a safe and caring atmosphere, we nurture values such as respect, empathy, responsibility, and cooperation.

Educational Project: Languages in Our Early Years Stage

At Yago School Málaga, we know that Early Years education is essential for building a strong foundation in language learning. Our educational project is based on an authentic and progressive linguistic immersion, where children experience English from the very first day, using it naturally to communicate, play, and learn.

English as the main language

Eighty-five percent of the school day takes place in English, not only in the classroom but also in the dining hall, playground, and corridors. This constant exposure allows students to acquire the language spontaneously and fluently, with ease and complete naturalness.

In a caring and trusting environment, teachers encourage constant communication, providing opportunities for children to talk, express emotions, discover, narrate, and explain real or imaginary experiences. English thus becomes a living tool that children use to think, create, and connect with others.

Subjects in Spanish

Although English is the main language of instruction, students also study subjects in Spanish, such as Spanish Language and Religion or Values.

These subjects strengthen their command of Spanish, enrich their vocabulary, improve oral and written expression, and help them develop strong communication skills in both languages.

In this way, our students grow as truly bilingual children, confident and fluent in both English and Spanish, able to connect naturally with the international environment while maintaining their cultural and linguistic identity.

Mandarin Chinese from the age of three

In addition to English and Spanish, Yago School Málaga introduces Mandarin Chinese as a third mandatory language from the age of three. We believe it is essential for our students to grow with a genuinely international mindset, developing language skills that open doors in an increasingly global world.

Mandarin Chinese, one of the most spoken languages on the planet and a key language in the world economy, offers a valuable advantage for our students’ academic and professional futures, while also boosting memory, concentration, and cognitive abilities.

Science and Technology in the Early Years Stage

At Yago School Málaga, we believe that curiosity is the driving force behind learning. From the very first years, we offer a technological and scientific environment adapted to early childhood, where children learn through play, experimentation, and discovery.

We provide a wide range of educational resources such as books, learning toys, iPads, Bee Bots, LEGO® Education sets, and hands-on materials that make every day an opportunity for enjoyable and meaningful learning. These tools encourage active, reflective, and purposeful learning that students can apply to real-life situations, stimulating logical thinking, creativity, and independence.

STEAM methodology: learning through exploration

Our educational approach integrates the STEAM methodology (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), which connects these disciplines through interdisciplinary projects. In this way, children develop imagination, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, while gaining a practical and creative understanding of the world around them.

Technology adapted to their age

From the age of five, students begin ICT (Information and Communication Technology) lessons, using iPads provided by the school as a support tool at specific moments of their learning journey. During this stage, they are introduced playfully to basic concepts of programming, robotics, 3D design, and digital literacy, always within a safe and responsible framework.

Apple Distinguished School recognition

Yago School Málaga is proud to be part of the prestigious Apple Distinguished Schools network, an international recognition awarded to educational institutions that demonstrate excellence in innovation, leadership, and the effective use of Apple technology in education.

This distinction reflects our commitment to a modern and inspiring education, where technology is not an end in itself but a powerful tool to enhance learning, creativity, and critical thinking.

Learning for the future

Our goal is to help children build a balanced, creative, and healthy relationship with technology, understanding its value as a means to learn, explore, and create.

Through these experiences, they develop essential digital and scientific skills that prepare them to face the challenges of the 21st century with confidence, collaboration, and innovation.

Art and Music in Our Early Years Stage

Through art and music, children learn to communicate, understand themselves, and explore the world in a creative, expressive, and meaningful way.

Art: discover, imagine, and create

The Art Education programme encourages creativity, imagination, and self-confidence. Our students learn to express emotions, develop their artistic sensitivity, and enjoy the creative process.

In our “Artist Corner” space, children discover a new artist every term: they explore their style, study their work, and find inspiration in their life story. This hands-on experience helps them connect with culture, awaken curiosity, and strengthen essential social and emotional skills that contribute to their overall development.

Music: feel, communicate, and learn

Music education in the Early Years stimulates all of a child’s cognitive and emotional abilities. Through rhythm, movement, and active listening, students develop language, memory, coordination, and concentration while also enhancing emotional expression and self-esteem.

Music becomes a universal language that helps children express their feelings and supports the development of other academic skills such as logical reasoning, focus, and creativity.

Sports in the Early Years Stage

Movement is the foundation of every child’s overall development. That’s why, from the age of three, Yago School Málaga integrates sports and psychomotricity as essential pillars of our educational project, always guided by specialist Early Years Physical Education teachers who support each stage of growth through play, movement, and active learning.

Our goal is for students to develop their motor skills and strengthen both their physical and emotional well-being, improving coordination, balance, and self-confidence along the way.

Psychomotricity and age-appropriate physical activity

We have a dedicated psychomotricity room designed for children aged 3 to 5, where they can move freely and take part in dynamic and engaging activities. This space promotes learning through movement, encouraging an active, healthy, and balanced education.
Throughout the week, children enjoy activities such as gymnastics, motor circuits, ball and racket games, rhythmic exercises, and body expression dynamics — all adapted to their age and level of development.

A complete development: body, mind, and emotions

Sports sessions in the Early Years benefit children in three key dimensions:

Cognitive
improve attention, concentration, memory, and creativity.

Motor
enhance coordination, strength, flexibility, speed, and posture control.

Affective and social
strengthen self-esteem, confidence, cooperation, and emotional management.

Through play and physical activity, children learn to move safely and confidently, navigate space, overcome challenges, and experience the joy and benefits of movement.

Values in Our Early Years School

At Yago School Málaga, we understand education as a process that goes far beyond academics. For this reason, values education is one of the fundamental pillars of our educational project, present from the Early Years all the way through to Baccalaureate.

From the very beginning, we work with our students on essential life values such as respect, solidarity, friendship, responsibility, joy, and care for the environment. Each month focuses on a specific value, explored through stories, games, role plays, and collaborative activities that help children understand, internalise, and put these principles into practice.

Our Friday “Assemblies” always include a dedicated moment to reflect on the value of the month, creating a space for emotional growth, empathy, and community building.

Catholic Religion or Values

As part of our commitment to a well-rounded and inclusive education, Yago School Málaga offers families the choice between Catholic Religion or Values as part of the curriculum from the Early Years stage.

Students who take Catholic Religion receive age-appropriate instruction that encourages respect, empathy, and spirituality in a warm and positive way. Families who wish may also choose for their children to prepare for the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation, supported by our teachers and chaplain, with the possibility of celebrating them within the school community.

Those who choose the Values option develop social, emotional, and moral skills, learning to reflect on their actions and make responsible, compassionate decisions that contribute positively to the world around them.

Guidance and Family Support in the Early Years Stage

At Yago School Málaga, we believe that open and effective communication between the school and families is essential to ensure the well-being and academic success of every child. For this reason, we provide a range of channels and resources designed to offer close, professional, and continuous support.

Personalised Tutoring

Each student has a dedicated tutor who monitors their academic, emotional, and social development throughout the year.
Tutors hold at least one mandatory meeting per term with families, and additional meetings can be arranged within the teachers’ and psychology team’s availability.

Parent School

We offer informative sessions for families, tailored to each educational stage. Throughout the year, we address topics relevant to students’ academic and emotional growth, always from a practical and supportive perspective.

Digital Tools for Smooth Communication

We provide several platforms that make it easy for families to access key information and resources:

  • EDUCAMOS: quick and efficient access to schedules, academic updates, circulars, meetings, extracurricular activities, routes, notices, and more.
  • School Agenda: a daily communication channel between school and families. Each morning, the tutor reviews the agenda for any parent messages, and each afternoon, families check it for updates, ensuring constant and transparent communication between school and home.
  • Google Classroom: through this platform, parents can access photos, evidence from Units of Inquiry, classroom activities, and educational resources. This allows families to follow their child’s progress and learning experiences closely, fostering active participation in their education.

Through these communication channels, families stay informed at all times and play an active role in their children’s academic and personal development.
