At Yago School Málaga, the Primary stage is one of the most important phases in each child’s education. That is why our International Educational Project is designed to offer a well-rounded education that combines academic excellence, personal growth and a strong foundation in values.
In a warm, safe and inspiring environment, students learn to think independently, work collaboratively and enjoy the learning process. Our pedagogical approach integrates active methodologies and inquiry-based learning, encouraging children to explore, investigate and connect their learning with the real world.
Alongside traditional subjects, we introduce cutting-edge areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence and coding, fostering curiosity, creativity and critical thinking from an early age.
English is the main language of instruction, ensuring a natural and fluent bilingual education, while art, music and sport complete each child’s development, helping them balance mind, body and spirit. Our high-level sports programme, creative arts and cultural activities promote discipline, self-expression and resilience.
At Yago School Málaga, students not only acquire knowledge but also develop the skills and values that prepare them for a global future, building the foundations for a lifetime of learning.
The Primary Education stage at Yago School Málaga covers ages 5–6 to 12 and includes six academic years (from PYP 4 to PYP 9). During this period, students strengthen the foundations of their learning, develop independence, and acquire the skills and tools needed to face future academic and personal challenges successfully.
Our methodology combines academic excellence with a strong values-based education, fostering curiosity, responsibility and a love of learning through an active and international approach inspired by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).
Our main objectives in Primary Education are:
At Yago School Málaga, we know that the Primary stage is essential for consolidating and expanding the linguistic foundation built during the early years. Our educational project is based on authentic and continuous language immersion, where students use English as the main language of learning and communication in their daily school life.
During this stage, language use becomes more structured and academic, yet remains natural and dynamic. Students think, create and express themselves in English while learning different subjects, strengthening both their linguistic competence and their confidence when communicating. At the same time, they continue to perfect their Spanish and begin to advance in Mandarin Chinese, gaining a truly multilingual education that prepares them for an international future.
Mastering English is an essential skill in today’s globalised world, which is why bilingualism is one of the core pillars of our educational philosophy. From the moment students join the school, they learn in a full language immersion environment, where English is the main language of instruction, both inside and outside the classroom.
Around 85% of the school day is conducted in English, enabling children to acquire the language naturally and spontaneously, using it in their everyday communication in class, the dining hall, playground and corridors. All subjects, except for Spanish Language and Religion or Values, are taught entirely in English, promoting active and contextual learning of the language.
In addition, students prepare for the official Cambridge examinations (from PYP 5 to PYP 9), in which they achieve excellent results every year, certifying their linguistic competence and academic progress.
Although English is the main language of instruction, our students also study Spanish Language and Religion or Values in Spanish. These subjects help to strengthen their oral and written expression, expand their vocabulary, and consolidate reading and grammar skills ensuring a balanced mastery of both languages.
In this way, students grow as confident, fluent and competent bilingual learners, able to communicate naturally in both Spanish and English, connecting with their cultural and linguistic identity while maintaining a strong international outlook.
In addition to English and Spanish, Yago School Málaga also includes Mandarin Chinese as a compulsory third language from the age of three. We believe that learning Chinese, the most widely spoken language in the world and a key language in the global economy, gives our students a real competitive advantage for their academic and professional futures.
Throughout Primary, students become familiar with Chinese language and culture and prepare for the official YCT and HSK exams, internationally recognised by the Confucius Institute. From Year 3 (PYP 6), they take the YCT 1, aiming to reach YCT 3 (A2 CEFR) level by the end of the Primary stage.
Our goal is that, by the end of Primary, students achieve an English level equivalent to B1, a solid command of Spanish, and certified knowledge of Mandarin Chinese, developing a truly international and multilingual mindset.
Science and Technology are key pillars of modern education. At Yago School Málaga, our goal is for students to understand their value not only as academic tools but also as ways to explore, create and innovate in their everyday lives.
Our educational approach integrates the STEAM methodology (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), combining science, engineering, art and mathematics through interdisciplinary projects.
This way of learning encourages students to experiment, think critically, solve problems and apply knowledge in practical and creative ways.
Subjects such as Natural Science, Mathematics, Art, ICT and Design & Technology are taught through an active, collaborative approach connected to real-world experiences.
From Year 1 to Year 3 (PYP 4 to PYP 6), students use a wide range of technological and hands-on resources that enrich their learning experience, including:
These tools make every day an opportunity to learn by playing, exploring and creating, fostering curiosity, independence and logical thinking.
At Yago School Málaga, technology is integrated in a responsible and age-appropriate way. Through The YProject, our digital competence programme, students learn to use technology as a tool for learning, communication and creativity.
In specific projects and subjects, students use digital devices provided by the school, allowing them to research, create multimedia content, collaborate and present their ideas in innovative ways. Everything takes place in a guided, safe and educational environment.
Yago School Málaga is proud to be part of the prestigious group of Apple Distinguished Schools, an international recognition awarded to schools that demonstrate excellence in innovation, leadership and the educational use of Apple technology.
This distinction reflects our commitment to a modern, inspiring and forward-thinking education, where technology is not an end in itself but a powerful tool to enhance learning, creativity and critical thinking.
At Yago School Málaga, we prepare students for the future through a balanced, responsible and creative relationship with technology.
Our STEAM and digital learning approach teaches them to collaborate, communicate, innovate and think critically, developing the essential skills they need to face the challenges of the 21st century with confidence and success.
At Yago School Málaga, Art and Music are essential pillars of our educational project. Both disciplines nurture creativity, sensitivity and emotional expression, helping students to communicate, understand the world around them and enjoy learning in a deeper and more human way.
Music is a universal language that connects, inspires and awakens emotions. In Primary Education, all our students enjoy two hours of Music every week, working across four key areas: listening and auditory training, vocal expression, instrumental practice (piano) and music theory.
Classes are taught by specialist teachers and professional musicians who foster a love of music through an active, playful and participatory approach. From the age of six, every student learns to play the piano, an instrument that enhances memory, coordination, reasoning and emotional development.
Throughout the school year, students have many opportunities to perform and share their talent during weekly assemblies, recitals, concerts, Music Week and the much-anticipated Christmas and Summer Shows, moments where creativity and emotion come together on stage.
At Yago School Málaga, we believe that Art is essential to each student’s holistic development. It stimulates imagination, observation, personal expression and critical thinking, reinforcing other areas of learning and building self-esteem and aesthetic awareness.
The Art programme continues the creative journey started in Early Years, introducing students to the works of great artists such as Matisse, Botero, Goya, Gauguin and Delaunay. By exploring their techniques and styles, students learn about history, culture and values while developing their own artistic vision.
At Yago School Málaga, we share UNESCO’s belief that art plays a vital role in shaping sensitive, empathetic and creative individuals who can connect with others and bring beauty and innovation to the world.
At Yago School Málaga, sport is much more than a subject. It is an essential educational tool for the physical, emotional and social development of our students. Through Physical Education, we promote values such as teamwork, respect, perseverance, self-improvement and the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.
The Physical Education (P.E.) programme includes three hours of P.E. per week, designed with a practical, dynamic and age-appropriate approach. Our teaching team focuses on motor development and coordination through a wide variety of sports, circuits, games and physical activities.
These sessions help improve gross and fine motor skills, reflexes, laterality and endurance, always from a motivational perspective that encourages effort, enjoyment and a positive sporting spirit.
We are proud to have extensive sports facilities, including multi-sport courts, a swimming pool, padel courts, artificial-grass football fields, a covered sports hall and outdoor areas, where students practise sports and enjoy their break time in a safe and stimulating environment.
Teamwork is a key pillar of our programme. Students learn to cooperate, take turns, accept responsibilities and value the contributions of others, developing a strong sense of sportsmanship and solidarity.
Every month, students discover and practise sports from around the world, such as football, basketball, volleyball and baseball. They learn not only the rules and techniques of each sport but also the history, culture and values behind them.
From PYP 6 (Year 3 of Primary), students also take part in weekly swimming lessons as part of the curriculum, which help them develop coordination, stamina and confidence in the water.
In this way, Physical Education becomes a window to the world, promoting cultural diversity, respect and inclusion through play.
In addition to P.E. classes, students participate in weekly assemblies that foster community spirit, teamwork and English communication.
Every two weeks, these sessions include sporting challenges such as gymkhanas, biathlons or the popular House Games, where students compete in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere, proudly representing their Houses.
At Yago School Málaga, we understand education as a process that goes far beyond academic learning. That is why values education is one of the fundamental pillars of our educational project, present from Early Years through to Baccalaureate.
From the very beginning, we help our students develop essential life values such as respect, solidarity, friendship, responsibility, joy and environmental awareness. Each month is dedicated to a specific value, explored through stories, games, drama and cooperative activities that allow students to understand, internalise and put these values into practice in their daily lives.
In addition, our Friday Assemblies always include a special moment for reflection on the value of the month, creating a meaningful space for emotional growth, empathy and community building.
As part of our commitment to comprehensive education and respect for diversity, Yago School Málaga offers families the option to choose between Catholic Religion and Values Education from the Early Years stage onwards.
Students who follow Catholic Religion receive age-appropriate formation that fosters respect, empathy and spirituality in a warm and positive way. Families who wish may also have their children prepare for the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation, with the guidance and support of our teachers and school chaplain.
Students who take Values Education develop social, emotional and moral competencies, learning to reflect on their decisions and act with responsibility, empathy and a sense of commitment towards others.
At Yago School Málaga, we believe that values are the foundation of education for life, guiding our students to grow as confident, caring and principled individuals ready to make a positive difference in the world.
