Currently, we offer the National Baccalaureate, which is rigorous and comprehensive, and we are a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. In both options, we not only prepare our students for success in higher education but also foster key skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork.

International Baccalaureate at Yago School

Diploma Programme Yago School Málaga is a candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and seeks authorization to become an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy: a commitment to rigorous and high-quality international education, which Yago School deems essential for its students.

International Baccalaureate: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma Programme offers excellent preparation for university and adult life, provides a balanced educational offering by instilling in students a very positive attitude towards learning, fosters an international mindset and emphasizes their physical, intellectual, emotional, and ethical development.

In addition, it includes an external evaluation system, which is widely recognized by leading universities in Spain and around the world.

The International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), a non-profit educational foundation based in Switzerland founded in 1968, emphasises critical thinking, the stimulation of intercultural understanding, and the promotion of tolerance among young people. It offers a comprehensive curriculum for the final two years of pre-university education recognised by universities worldwide: the IB Diploma Programme.

In addition, the IBO offers a wide range of services: curriculum development and assessment systems, professional training for teachers and research on issues related to international education.

The IB Diploma Program is an international, rigorous, and balanced educational program that prepares students for an international education at the university level and on to their adult lives.

What does the IB Diploma Program consist of?

It consists of a real two-year university preparation course, with an external examination, common to all IB students worldwide and subject to worldwide standardized assessment.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme curriculum consists of a core part common to all Diploma Programme students and six subject groups.

The three core and common components, or subjects, of the Diploma Programme aim to broaden the educational experience of students and motivate them to put their knowledge and skills into practice.

Theory of Knowledge: critical reflection with a philosophical basis
CAS(Creativity, Activity and Service): activities and projects related to the aforementioned areas.
Extended essay: a 4,000-word essay on a topic they are interested in researching

Spanish Baccalaureate Yago +

Yago School offers the option of taking the Spanish Curriculum Baccalaureate governed by the LOMLOE Law and complementing it with the core components of the International Baccalaureate or the International Baccalaureate or Core Subjects.

At this stage, our goal is to fully prepare students not only academically but also personally and emotionally. We aim for them to successfully tackle both the University Access Tests (PAU) and the significant transition of completing their school years. Our commitment is to support their development as well-rounded and competent citizens, ready to thrive in the dynamic world of the 21st century.

An International Baccalaureate in several languages

An International Baccalaureate in Multiple Languages A defining feature of Yago School’s international character is our emphasis on English as the primary language, complemented by second foreign languages such as Chinese and French. These are our hallmarks, enabling us to become a Cambridge examination centre and the Hanban Institute, as well as preparing students for DELF-DALF examinations. Few private schools or institutes can certify a B1 level in 6th Primary (PYP 9), a B2 level in 2nd Secondary, up to C1 (Certificate of Advanced English) and C2 (Proficiency)levels in 4th Secondary through the University of Cambridge, and HSK 2-3 levels in Chinese—an invaluable passport for studying and living in the interconnected and globalised world of the 21st century. This comprehensive language offering continues in Secondary with the option to study French and certify the achieved level with the Alliance Française. Consequently, all students enter the Baccalaureate with strong communicative abilities in multiple languages, enhancing their performance in both native and foreign language groups.

In Baccalaureate, a wide variety of subjects are offered in English, allowing our students to continue their coursework in English and attracting a significant number of international students who wish to complete their pre-university studies in Málaga.

Which universities can my child attend after completing the International Baccalaureate?

Are there college counselors at Yago so that my child has a clear future?

Yago School has a University and Career Guidance department led by Mr. Lincoln Brody IB teacher & University & Career Counselor, a great professional with extensive experience in this type of counseling.

Students from Secondary and Baccalaureate receive college and career counseling. We cooperate with Maia Learning, a college and career planning resource that assists us in students’ career development, conducting self-assessments and guiding them towards college plans and careers in which they can thrive.

We continually conduct college visits, receive speakers who talk to them and guide them about their college future, and the possibilities they have, always to make the best choice that best suits their profile.

Do students in the Spanish Baccalaureate continue to learn English, Chinese, or French?

Spanish Baccalaureate students can choose French as a second language or Chinese as a complementary subject. They also receive in English those complementary subjects that do not go to the EvAu (Selectividad) exams.
At present, the IB educational programmes are offered in three languages: English, French and Spanish. Yago School offers the possibility of providing teaching and assessment services in Spanish and a wide range of subjects also in English. We receive many foreign students who demand this type of curriculum.

Students can choose the language subjects English A, English B, Spanish A: Spanish Language and Literature, and in the language acquisition group French, English A, Spanish B or Chinese, since our students take Chinese starting at age two.

What if my child does not adapt to the level or changes his/her mind about what he/she wants to study?

Yago School advises students to take the path that best suits them, taking into account the student’s profile, his/her degree of commitment, and what his/her preferences are when choosing a degree. For this reason, we do an exhaustive follow-up throughout the two years and accompany them at all times, guiding them and suggesting what best suits them. This means that the student can decide to change their itinerary at any time and we will advise him/her and facilitate the transition as much as possible.

Yago School has different channels of communication School-Family, essential for the development of the teaching activity.

TUTORIALS. We have a schedule of teacher availability and a team of psychologists specialized in therapeutic pedagogy and speech therapy for meetings or tutorials. Tutors offer personal, emotional, social, and academic information about each of their students at least once a trimester on a mandatory basis.
We also offer a PARENT SCHOOL during the school year that deals with appropriate topics of interest for each of the stages of student development.
The YAGO ONLINE SITE, which can be accessed through our website, is a space where parents have access to various useful tools.
The digital platform EDUCAMOS offers all kinds of academic information, schedules, tutorials, extracurricular activities, routes, circulars, and notices in an agile, comfortable, fast and efficient way.
